Refugee Donation Drive
International School on the Rhine (ISR)
Grades: K - 12
September 30, 2015After reading articles in the newspaper about the refugees fleeing to Germany, that SLO® decided they could help and make a difference!
The Social Responsibility Department created flyers, posters and promoted this campaign in the school’s weekly newsletter to gather backpacks, suitcases, school supplies, clothing, shoes and toys to donate to the local refugee camp in Neuss. ISR wanted to take an active role and build relationships in their local community and help the refugees coming to Germany from Syria.
In the beginning, only a few items were collected. Suddenly, the news started spreading and donations began filling our school foyer. It was unbelievable! The ISR community even spread the word to their friends and families outside of ISR donated. Two weeks before the items were delivered, SLO® prefects began sorting all the donations into different piles and boxes. Finally everything was loaded onto ISR’s big yellow school bus and the donations were off to welcome the refugees to Germany!
