Appreciating Teachers

Sardam International School, Kurdistan, Iraq

September 27, 2015

To create a bond between the staff and students and to remind the students of their important role in the school and to show their creativity, the Outreach Department prefects thought of a way to appreciate their school staff, so they designed and worked on a board which included all the school staff names divided into departments starting from the administration to the custodians as a gift to them.

Refugee Donation Drive

International School on the Rhine (ISR)

Grades: K - 12

September 30, 2015

After reading articles in the newspaper about the refugees fleeing to Germany, that SLO® decided they could help and make a difference!

The Social Responsibility Department created flyers, posters and promoted this campaign in the school’s weekly newsletter to gather backpacks, suitcases, school supplies, clothing, shoes and toys to donate to the local refugee camp in Neuss. ISR wanted to take an active role and build relationships in their local community and help the refugees coming to Germany from Syria.

In the beginning, only a few items were collected.  Suddenly, the news started spreading and donations began filling our school foyer.  It was unbelievable! The ISR community even spread the word to their friends and families outside of ISR donated.  Two weeks before the items were delivered, SLO® prefects began sorting all the donations into different piles and boxes.  Finally everything was loaded onto ISR’s big yellow school bus and the donations were off to welcome the refugees to Germany!

Spelling Bee Club

International School of Choueifat - Sharjah

Grades: 5-6

October 03, 2015

In order to train and select the best students to represent the school in the Spelling Bee at the SABIS® STARS, the prefects decided to start up a Spelling Bee Club. Seventy students from grades five and six competed for a chance to be one of Sharjah's SABIS® STARS Spelling Bee representatives.

The qualifying event started on the morning of Saturday, October 3rd 2015, when all competitors gathered in one school hall. Each competitor was given a random word to say, spell out, then say again, as per the general rules of Spelling Bee. After two complex rounds, the top twenty-four students were chosen. With the help of their designated mentors, the students will attend the SABIS® STARS Spelling Bee Competition in March 2016.
