Sports Week

SABIS® Ulink International Academy of Shanghai - Shanghai, China

November 18, 2022

To promote ambition, courage, cooperation, and strength, a Sports Week was planned, aiming to encourage both individual as well as team competition.

During the sports week, three sports were scheduled: table tennis, basketball, and frisbee. Although basketball and frisbee were held after school, our students participated enthusiastically. Every player did their best to get the points for their sections.

The table tennis tournament lasted for more than a week. 21 players signed up for the game, including two teachers, one of whom successfully entered the final round.

Compared to the other sports, frisbee united students from the same section. Girls and boys ran on the playground and competed  while having a lot of fun.

Chris Wang (CS teacher): The table tennis matches were a great addition to our school curriculum. From it, I saw a very energetic side of SABIS students. The high level of participation of the students also made the teachers want to join such an activity. What is especially worth mentioning is the organization of the event. I heard that the matches were arranged randomly using a computer program, such an integration of sports and technology is really a good reflection of the overall quality of the SABIS students. I hope that they will continue to make progress in their studies and have a lot of fun here at SABIS.

First SABIS® ULink Winter Sports Games

SABIS® ULINK International Academy of Shanghai - Shangai, China

December 20, 2021

After a month of efforts, the first SABIS Ulink Winter Sports Games were finally ready .

The first game was badminton and most students and teachers took part in it. After four days of brilliant display of skills, stamina and tactics, Jason (G10) won the championship.

Rope skipping, a very popular winter sport in China, was held during the SL Period on the last game day. Miya (G9) won the championship with 177 skips in one minute.

To add joy to the event, a “cockfighting” game foul was part of the Winter Sports Games. The game was filled with laughter and happiness. Tony (G9) won the competition and received applause from his fellow competitors.

In the first SABISUlink Winter Sports Games, we witnessed a spirited friendship, solidarity, and fair play.

G10's Jason said: "I am very happy and honored to win the first prize in the badminton competition I participated in. This competition brings me a lot of experience, feeling chuff and pleasant, not only the competition, more is the experience of dealing with people than winning. I didn't think it was possible, but it turns out that with encouragement from friends and more confidence, anyone can do better than you think. I was lucky enough to win this competition, but I think everyone in this competition is worthy of this honor. It's not the ranking itself that matters, it's the camaraderie and togetherness that we have shown in this competition."

Sports Day 2021

SABIS® Ulink International Academy of Shanghai - Shanghai, China

October 16, 2021

To cultivate students’ interest in sports and team work, a Sports Day was held for everyone during which students learned new activities, built relationships and developed perseverance and sportsmanship.

The rain on that day, did not dampen our champions' spirits and they braved the elements to secure their places in the many competitions they got involved in:

- Frisbee was the activity that required teamwork and stamina.

- Team building was an interesting activity that needed students’ cooperation as well as persistence and tenacity.

- Human ladder was the hardest activity because holding up bars while holding a person on it is not an easy thing to do.

- Chain Gang was also impressive. The rainfall made it harder to walk when legs were tied but everyone managed.

- Due to the rain, basketball was changed into just shooting the ball.

- The rock-climbing challenge was a tough activity because no one had climbing experience, however, a couple of people successfully completed the rock-climbing challenge.

- Survival of The Fittest required students’ core strength. All four actions were challenging which made students competitive.

- Benchball was an activity that really tested the students and developed their teamwork skills.

All in all, it was a very successful event that brought everyone together..

Erin: I really liked the sports day. My favorite activity was Survival of The Fittest. It made me tired, but I enjoyed the experience that exercise with my friends

Hans: I thought it was a special experience to have a sports day under such cold and freezing condition.

Janet: My favorite activity was Basketball Shot. I had a basketball dream which I believe I will reach soon.

Fun Race

The International School of Choueifat - Doha, Qatar

February 09, 2021

Qatar National Sports Day is an annual holiday specifically held to encourage everyone to participate in healthy activities.

At ISC Doha, we celebrated this national holiday by inviting all students, teachers, staff, and alumni to join us for fun races and activities at school or at home.

Typically, the SLO team at ISC Doha would have hosted an eventful day at school, however due to Covid-19, this year's sports day was a little different, but still effective. Our prefects and the sports department organized a virtual race through an app called "Just Move". It was easy to use and it gave everyone the ability to run at the location of his or her choice; students, parents, and staff signed up. Runners were divided into three groups, each given a specific distance to cover; grades 3-6: 1k, grades 7-9: 3k, grades 10-12 along with parents and staff: 5k. The app tracked the location, pace, and time taken to complete the given distance, ranking the runners accordingly. It also allowed them to post pictures and share comments about the race. There were prizes for the top three winners. Although this year may not have been like previous ones, the SLO still made a great effort to commemorate a healthy lifestyle for everyone.

“The Qatar National Sports Day is a national event that the people of Qatar look forward to every year. It is a nation wide activity to celebrate healthy habits, fitness, and sportsmanship. The Student Life Organization at The International School of Choueifat has always organized school functions and activities to celebrate the Qatar National Sports Day. This year’s event was more interesting as the Student Life Organization managed to organize a virtual marathon that would celebrate Qatar National Sports Day while maintaining the safety precautions required for Covid-19. Although I probably came last, I am proud to have participated in this event which proved to be as equally fun and challenging as previous years' events. It helped to create a sense of community and connection, and it made us realize that despite the restrictions we can adapt our way of life, adapt how we socialize, adapt how we study and teach, adapt how we participate in sports, and most importantly adapt to remain part of the community.”
Mr. Khalil Temsah, Academic Quality Controller

“It was an amazing experience to be able to participate in such an event. It was really interesting how we could organize such a virtual race where many participants were able to run in real time and compete on a high level. Records and timing were very good. Proud I could complete the 5K. I really enjoyed that day, along with my family where my 2 boys did the 1 K race as well. Such a good chance to practice and enjoy the weather during our day off while exercising.  At the end, as a head of PE, I was so so glad to see the big number of students, parents and staff participating and happy with the event. Looking forward to more."
Mr. Jean Pierre, Head of PE

E Sports League

The International School of Choueifat Dubai Investments Park - Dubai, UAE

October 10, 2020

In order to maintain a competitive spriit and sportsmanship amongst the students, an online E Sports Tournament,  a Football Game for Grade 9-12 students was created.

The students used the FiFA 20 video game and competed against each other using headsets to communicate.

The games were conducted on a Saturday afternoon as to not interfere with Study or Make Ups. All the games were monitored by the SLO and the Sports Deputy Head Prefect. Games were 6 minutes a side, the turn-out was great and finished on the same day.

The Students thoroughly enjoyed this as it restored some competitive edge to campus life in a sporting capacity. Due to the nature of it being a success more students and grades asked when their E Sports competition was going to be and if one could be set up for them.
