January 31, 2015Walk for Animals
International School of Choueifat - Sharjah
Grades 9-12
February 05, 2015In order to educate students about animals and their role in our lives as well as show them that animals are to be loved and cared for, the SLO® organized the CHOOSE HEALTHY CHOOSE COMPASSION campaign; a combination of vegetarian ethics and love for animals.
A number of pupils are passionate animal lovers. Recognising the need to raise awareness for animal welfare here in the UAE, what better way to start than at the ISC Sharjah campus. Organisations such as Sharjah Cats and Dogs Shelter do a great job in helping animals who have been abandoned or who have suffered a cruel fate. This issue was brought to the students' attention by organising an event after school whereby students could bring their pets and/or adopt an animal. The aim of the event was to reach out to students who neither have pets nor a great interest in animals in the hope to show them how the love of a pet is something really special.
The event took place after school on Thursday February 5th, 2015. It was a lovely sunny day and the perfect environment for the animals. Several stations were set-up across the track; there was a bake stand, lemonade stand, hydration station and most importantly, an adoption gallery organised in conjunction with Sharjah Cats and Dogs Shelter.
All students walked together in solidarity around the 400 metre track with their cats, dogs, rabbits and turtles! Many of the teachers and staff members joined in support. The event was concluded with several fun activities such as dodgeball, tug-of-war and soccer to kick start the weekend.
Although unfortunately there were no adoptions in the end, our students learned a lot about animals and are now aware that Sharjah Cats and Dogs shelter is a service available for any stray or uncared for animals that they may find in the emirate.

February 16, 2015Juice for Charity
International School of Choueifat - Suleimaniah, Kurdistan - Iraq
Grade 9
February 18, 2015In order to promote a healthier lifestyle, Grade 9 prefects came up with the idea of offering students freshly squeezed orange juice on a daily basis hoping to encourage them to eat and especially to drink healthier beverages.
They organized themselves to purchase oranges and along with the cafeteria staff, set out to press oranges on a daily basis and serve it to the students. Bulletin boards displayed ideas to help students live a healthy life style, stay balanced, avoid junk food, and eat healthy snacks. The demand for fresh juice has increased dramatically and the project will be expanded to include other kinds of juices. All proceeds collected from the sale of the juice have been donated to charity.
