Mental Math
Zakho International School, Kurdistan
Grade 4
January 24, 2015In order to encourage students to do their homework and practice mental math at home, Zakho International School organized a Mental Math competition for grade 4.
The grade 4 students proved to be very tough competitors as they breezed through the questions until 3 students were declared winners and awarded trophies. Parents in attendance were cheering both their child and other children too.
This was a great way to reinforce the knowledge learned in class and motivate students to continue studying at home.

Spelling Bee
International School of Minnesota
Grades 3, 4, 5
January 15, 2015The International School of Minnesota held their first spelling bee for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. The SLO® Lower School Department held the event on January 14th and 15th, 2015. Over 25 students participated by the end of the first day with five finalists from each grade.
Students were given word lists before the winter break based on each grade which gave them enough time to study. These words were the ones used during the spelling bee and students did so well that words from the grade above (i.e. grade 3 received grade 4 words…etc.) were used
Winners received various prizes such as notebooks, candy, pens, and certificates. The SLO® Lower School Department is already working on a second spelling bee which will take place term 3 and students are anticipating this event with excitement.
