Arab Renaissance
International School of Choueifat - City of 6 October
Grades 3 - 12
February 19, 2015In order to promote awareness about the school's rich Arabic history, especially during the Dark Ages when the Arabs lived through their Golden Era, the SLO ® organized an Arab Renaissance event to educate and teach students about history, culture and the world.
The week started with presentations for all students from grades 3-12 during their Student Life Periods, Advising lessons, and free periods. A mini-documentary was shown and presentations were delivered about the Arabic Golden Era.
Students were surprised about all the information and had no idea that many of the modern day tools and inventions originated from the Arab Civilization early on. The presentation was very interactive and included a lot of animation which caught the interest and awe of the younger students. On campus; an empty wall was transformed into a photo gallery for some of the most historically significant Arabic individuals. Portraits along with short biographies were hung up, from famous inventors, to poets, to thinkers, and scientists from all over the Arabic world both, ancient and modern. The week ended with an “Arab Culture Spirit Day” in which students and teachers dressed up in lovely Arabic clothes. The cafeteria also served delicious food all day from all over the Arabic world.
Shadow Teachers' Day
International School of Choueifat - Lahore
Grades 3 - 12
February 04, 2015The SLO® organized the second Shadow Teacher’s Day from February 2nd to 4th, 2015. Students from grades 3-12 taught the regular lessons instead of their teachers. This event gave shadow teachers an opportunity to step into their teachers shoes, and gain a better appreciation for all the hard work that they do. Moreover, the act of teaching itself teaches one invaluable people skills and requires a certain degree of self-confidence that none of the students seemed to lack. As this event was organized and executed mostly by the student body, it successfully showed that when students work together they can bring about a positive change and achieve wonders.
This event called for the preparation of 177 shadow teachers who were trained well by the teachers. This is no small feat, as on these days, every single subject, from Mathematics to Mandarin, was taught by shadow teachers. These prefects utilized every tool available to them while teaching, and even used the Interactive White Boards to effectively engage the students. Even grades 5 to 8, who recently acquired the IWBs this year, had no problems with using the boards. With the help of the IWBs and the SABIS® Point System, the shadow teachers conducted their lessons efficiently.
Unlike other events, Shadow Teacher’s Day empowers students in the classroom. For students to be taught by one of their fellow peers there has to be a feeling of mutual respect in the classroom, as well as a sense of maturity. Consequently, both shadow teachers and students alike are given the opportunity to grow, not only as individuals but also as a community. Such lessons are invaluable, especially to the younger kids, as these skills cannot be taught through textbooks.
Al Moumayyazoun
SABIS® International School - Adma
Grade 9
March 06, 2015In order to instill an interest in Arabic grammar, history, geography and civics in G9 Brevet students whilst improving their performance in exams, the SABIS Student Life Organization® held “Al Moumayazoun” competition in March 2015.
G9 students were divided into 6 groups and the competition was partitioned into several rounds. During each round, a team was knocked out, up until two teams met in the final round on March 6, 2015. This competition helped the students strengthen their time management skills while enhancing their ability to work as an organized team. It also helped refresh the participants’ memories on essential concepts that are needed for their official exams.
Al Moumayazoun is an annual 3-day competition, exclusively made for the Brevet class, which quizzes the students on their Arabic as well as Arabic Social Studies knowledge.
