Thursday...Smile Day

International School of Choueifat - Ruwais

Grades 6 - 12

January 22, 2015

Sunshine and Social Responsibility prefects at the International School of Choueifat – Ruwais started an initiative under the title of “Thursday…Smile Day”.

The prefects stood at the school entrance to greet teachers and staff members as they came into the school in the morning and offered them a “smile” badge to wear all day, and return that badge to the SLO® office by the end of the day. The badge read: “Wear your smile….the key that fits the lock of every heart”

A large number of teachers and administrators – including the school’s SABIS® Support Director – wore the badge all day in support of the smile day. The badges will continue to be given out every Thursday; however, the quote on them will change to match the theme of the week or the theme of the month. The next badges will be titled “Smile for Success”

Recognizing School Staff

International School of Choueifat - Ruwais

Grades 11, 12

January 22, 2015

Prefects of the Social Responsibility and Outreach Departments at the International School of Choueifat – Ruwais went around the school and thanked all office boys/girls, security guards, watchmen, and janitors for all the efforts their hard work and efforts. The prefects baked cupcakes at home and made smiley face flags that were given to each of the staff members mentioned earlier as a simple thank you for their efforts.

This step drew a huge smile on the workers faces and made them feel recognized and appreciated. More recognition days for different school employees are being prepared for and will take place in the near future.

Buddy System

International School of Choueifat - City of 6 October

Grades 4-7

The purpose of this activity is to help children who don’t have friends develop the social skills needed to make new friends, and to make sure they are not alone during lunch and break times.

The idea came about when grade 12 prefects noticed that there were younger students wandering around the school without friends during break time.  The prefects sent out special invitations with chocolate attached to those students, so that they can meet up during lunch for a “secret meeting.”  During lunch, the seniors would help students develop their talents and social skills, which would then help them stand out amongst their classmates.   For example, they set up art classes and tutored the children if they were having troubles academically.  Not only that, but they also acted as friends to the children and counseled them when they were facing difficulties on a social level. The main purpose of the activity was to put a smile on a child’s face and make him/her feel loved, because some of the children who are lonely develop into unhappy and depressed teens.

Appreciation BBQ Night

International School of Choueifat - Amman

Grades 4 - 12

December 10, 2014

At the end of the first term, The Outreach Department organized a special evening to show appreciation for all the hard work the Student Life Organization® Prefects put in. The evening started with a Treasure Hunt that was quite motivating. Prefects teamed up in large groups and started running around the school, searching for clues that would lead them to their next stop.

In the meantime, other prefects, with the help of teachers, were cooking an appetizing barbeque for all to enjoy. After words of appreciation from the Deputy Head Prefects, The School Director and other officials, the prefects enjoyed the rest of the evening eating, mingling and enjoying themselves.  Thank you prefects for your contribution to the school.
