Academic Olympics - Science Quest
ISC - Choueifat
October 22, 2014Prefects of the Academic Department launched the “Academic Olympics”, a series of challenges that targets various school subjects. The Science Quest was the first stage among a group of similar competitions in the Academic Olympics. The Science Quest took place during three separate SLO Periods, and included 3 rounds: one for eleventh graders, one for twelfth graders, and a final round to determine the winners!
Science is such a vast topic, thus the competition featured questions of biology, problem solving, and myth -or -reality challenges.
The competition featured 6 segments that explored the depth and variety of the students’ scientific knowledge. Questions were asked, teams set to work, group discussions broke out as buzzers beeped and judges evaluated!
A rush of excitement and suspense was felt as the timer ticked and the crowd cheered. The event was a success, proving that education is not limited to the walls of classrooms, but exists on a much wider scale.

The final task of the day was performing community service. Students divided themselves into 2 groups. One group headed to a nursing home and the other to a refugee camp. At the nursing home they distributed gifts talked to seniors and listened to their stories. Meanwhile, at the refugee camp, toys and clothes were delivered and the prefects organized games for all the children lifting their spirtis and making their day.
Teachers vs Students Sports Tournament
City of 6 October
October 20, 2014The teachers and students competed against each other in a sports tournament that included football, volleyball, basketball and dodgeball. The teachers’ team was made up of a variety of teachers from primary to high school, the SLC, supervisors, and the SMC. The students’ team was composed of students from grades 10-12.
Teachers and students battled it out for two and half hours. The action was intense and involved the SLC being red carded and students tripping over balls. The event finally ended in a tie.
This was a great bonding experience that stressed the importance of unity and family culture between the teachers and the students.
Looking forward to the next one.
