Burrowing Owl Conservation Project

SABIS® International School - Phoenix

October 18, 2014

The Social Responsibility Department at SABIS® International School of Phoenix made an ongoing commitment to assist the local Phoenix Chapter of the Audubon Society with their Burrowing Owl Conservation Project.

The Audubon Society exists to connect people with nature, using education, science and advocacy to protect birds, other wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and earth's biodiversitySLO® Prefects from SIS have dedicated time towards cleaning up the nearby Rio Salado Riverbed and creating much needed artificial burrows for the owls to live in.  Prefects found themselves waist deep in the Sonoran Desert once again on Saturday, October 18th, shoveling dirt and heaving rocks out of massive holes that would later house a parliament of Burrowing Owls.  Spending the morning working alongside the transformed habitat of the Rio Salado allowed everyone to forget that they were in the heart of the most polluted area in Phoenix.  Through partnering up with the Audubon Society SIS will surely have a positive impact on restoring the native habitat here in the Sonoran Desert for many generations to come.

Mini Soccer Camp

SABIS® International School - Phoenix

November 14, 2014

The SLO® Lower School Department and SIS Gladiator Soccer Team joined forces to host a four week long soccer training camp for our students in Grades K-2.  Prefects worked with the eager young students to introduce basic soccer skills and teach them the importance of belonging to a team.  The soccer program was so well received by our school community that we have been asked to hold it again in the coming spring.  The camp served not only as an excellent fundraiser but as a wonderful opportunity for our  Prefects to serve as positive role models for our many Lower School Participants.

“My child looks forward to soccer practice more than anything else.  She’s an only child and this camp has created an opportunity for her to hang out with her friends for some healthy fun after school.”

Twin Day

SABIS® International School - Phoenix

November 19, 2014

The SLO® Discipline Department at SABIS® International School of Phoenix has been aligning their Monthly Discipline Themes with theSpirit Day Themes held each month at SIS.  The SLO® Monthly Discipline Theme for November was, “Stay in Uniform!”  This paired perfectly with SLO® Twin Day as students wear identical clothing to school each day per our school’s established uniform standard.  Students who did not receive 3 Uniform Infractions were able to partner up with their fellow peers and in some cases with their teachers to don matching outfits at SIS on Friday, November 19th.  During the entire month of November our SLO® Prefects stressed the importance of following the established uniform standards at SIS.  They informed the student body that wearing matching uniforms each day wasn’t solely a safety matter but it was also an opportunity to let your true character show through actions and not fashion choices.
