Mini-Camp in Flint

International Academy of Flint

September 27, 2014

International Academy of Flint’s Student Life Mini Camp was better than any of us could imagine. Prefects and staff headed to Soaring Eagle Water Park for a memorable weekend of training, brainstomring and bonding.

Friendships were made, barriers were tore down and courage zones expanded. Training Presentations began at 6:00 pm on Friday evening with the Shake It Up icebreaker to get the group going followed by the Iron Will movie that genuinely touched the hearts of all presents.  Saturday morning witnessed the heavy-duty sessions starting with the Fish! Philosophy, followed by Overcoming Your Fears, and then by Conversational Jenga.  This game really got our group to talk to one another.  After lunch The Energy Bus was presented and discussed.

Students and staff truly developed a new outlook on life.  They all embraced a positive energy to benefit their school upon their return.  The positive energy of the camp was contagious and will be nurtured to grow throughout the school for the remainder of the year.

Mini-Camp in Egypt

ISC - City of 6 October
ISC - Cairo

October 02, 2014

40 students from ISC- Cairo and 48 students from ISC - City of 6 October joined forces for their annual training Camp. The training sessions took place at the ISC Cairo school and the Team building activities at Wadi Degla Nature Reserve.

There were a total of 88 students, 2 SLCs, and 6 teachers at this great event.  As soon as the ISC 6 of October students stepped foot on the Cairo campus, chanting “Motivated, Motivated down right motivated. You check us out! You check us out! AHHHH!”, the fun began starting with a couple of ice breaker activities to get to know each other.

Presentations were delivered by prefects who attended previous SLTCs as well as Deputy Heads and Head Prefects of both schools.  The topics that were presented were both inspirational and motivational.  They included topics such as leadership, overcoming your fears, the Student Life Training Camp, Bullying Prevention, and maintaining a positive attitude.  The prefects were confident and spoke from personal experience.

At Wadi Degla Nature Reserve where they spent the night, students from both schools were divided into groups by playing the “Sticker Game”. They were then asked to get into their groups and find one thing they all had in common, illustrate it on a poster, and put on a mini show to represent it. It was hilarious and extremely creative. The night ended with a bonfire, roasting marshmallows, dancing, and talking until the curfew.

The next day, campers woke up at 5:30 am, to go hiking to the top of the mountain before sunrise.  The climb up one of the rockiest mountains in Wadi Degla was challenging but we made it to the top to witness the sunrise.  It was a magical moment.

It was very difficult to say goodbye after learning and bonding for 2 days and thanks to everyone's energy and determination, students and staff left motivated to make a difference at their school.
