Students for Students School Project

ISC - Cairo and ISC - City of 6 October

November 26, 2013

Sir Francis Bacon once said, “In charity there is no excess” and that is the literal aim of the SLO® Social Responsibility Departments at ISC – City of 6 October and ISC - Cairo.  They set no boundaries to possible achievements and they believe that anything is possible.  This year both schools in Egypt decided to bridge the gap between the ISC students and students from local public schools in their neighborhoods.

ISC – City of 6 October decided to assist a government school in the city of 6 Of October called “Om El Momeneen”.  The goal is to fund the renovation of the classrooms and eventually the entire school.  The funds are raised through various bakes sales, selling of candy grams, and other SLO® driven fundraisers.  The ISC – City of 6 October SLO® team has raised enough money to furnish and fix 9 classrooms with desks, teachers’ desks, chairs, blackboards, windows, doors, and they also managed to repaint the classrooms and adjoining hallway.  In addition, they have renovated 3 bathrooms in the main building, before this there were no functioning bathrooms.

ISC – Cairo helped furnish 8 classrooms with desks, chairs, blackboards, and teacher’s desks at the Khadega Experimental Public School in their neighborhood. They have now also started with renovations on a an all girls public school.  Students from the SLO® team have gone to paint classrooms and help out.  Hopefully by the end of this academic year they will have completed the entire school using the generous contributions from the parents, students, and staff members.

This initiative lies under the “Students For Students” banner, where students instigate positive changes in other students’ lives and are making tangible differences due to their hard work and determination.

One positive action can make a HUGE difference and at both ISC - Egypt schools we strive to constantly make a difference and we will keep striving towards bettering our communities and our country.

On-Demand Tutoring

February 10, 2014

We are very pleased to announce the launch of SABIS® On-Demand Tutoring (ODT), for all SABIS® students in levels C-M network-wide

The On-Demand Tutoring is a service allowing students to self-study concepts and academic materials by viewing pre-recorded videos, complementing the learning taking place in the classroom. Most videos have been prepared by students from SABIS® schools around the world through the SABIS Student Life Organization®, and have been approved by SABIS® Educational Services before being posted online.

SABIS® On-Demand Tutoring, videos are available in mathematics for levels C-M, in science for levels J and K (only for courses using the SABIS® science books), levels L-M for Physics, Chemistry and Biology and for English Levels F-K. Students of these levels can access the videos by logging into SABIS® WebSchool and then navigating to the On-Demand Tutoring icon.

The ODT Program allows students to ask questions after viewing a video.  All questions will be automatically routed to the student's school and viewed by the SLO® Prefects who in turn will assign a tutor to the student to ensure all his/her questions are answered.

Walk of Glory

ISC - Choueifat

May 09, 2014

At the International School of Choueifat, Choueifat, the student body was not about to let their grade 12 students graduate in peace.  They had to go out in a bang.

The Sunshine prefects prepared a surprise event for these 12th graders. At 3:30 pm on Friday May 9th, the prefects gathered the whole school, including students, teachers and staff, as well as administrators around the area where the 12th graders would have to pass by. The stairs and the surrounding area was decorated with balloons and looked beautiful.

When the 12th graders showed up, there were blindsided by well wishers, cheering them on, singing for them, applauding their efforts and encouraging them forward.  Many prefects held posters with nice messages on them and proudly held them above their heads.

Health Awareness Campaign - Body & Mind

ISC - Choueifat

April 10, 2014

In an effort to promote healthy choices and educate students on healthy living, the Student Life Organization organized an inspirational 2 weeks “Health Awareness-Body and Mind” campaign for all the students without exception, from Pre-k up to grade 12.

Presentations and dynamic activities were used to cover a wide variety of health issues such as hygiene, nutrition, mental health, sleeping disorders, smoking, drug abuse, stress management, alcohol and energy drinks addiction, racism and peace, driving safety, dental hygiene, acting right in accidents,  first aid guidelines, etc... and were greatly enjoyed by the students.

The highlight of this campaign was an Open Day of Awareness, in which professionals in the health field and doctors (some of them SABIS® graduates) were invited to share best practices, talk about various topics and answer questions as well as shed light on the side-effects of living an unhealthy lifestyle.

As a handy and beneficial reference, flyers were distributed and discussed.
