Cancer Awareness Campaign

The International School of Choueifat - Sharjah, UAE

October 01, 2025

The Student Life Organization (SLO) conducted a two‑week Cancer Awareness Campaign to promote informed understanding, empathy, and responsible health awareness within the school community. The campaign was intentionally divided into two phases: the first week focused specifically on Breast Cancer Awareness, while the second week addressed general cancer awareness, ensuring a comprehensive and age‑appropriate educational experience.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Week, students participated in a school-wide parade and a symbolic run to express solidarity with individuals affected by cancer. They also wrote heartfelt letters to cancer patients, fostering empathy and personal connection. As part of the educational component, a surgeon visited the school to deliver an informative session on breast cancer detection and prevention. The presentation emphasized early warning signs, self‑examination techniques, and the importance of regular screenings. To reinforce the message, brochures containing essential breast cancer information were distributed to all staff members.

The second week broadened the focus to general cancer awareness, underscoring the importance of early detection, community support, and compassionate dialogue around serious health issues. Age‑appropriate materials and guided discussions ensured that students engaged with the topic in a thoughtful, sensitive, and respectful manner.

This extended campaign aligned with the school’s wider wellbeing and health education goals by encouraging students to approach sensitive subjects with maturity, compassion, and a strong sense of responsibility. Student engagement throughout the two weeks reflected their commitment to the initiative’s purpose and values.

Through this comprehensive campaign, SLO reinforced its commitment to delivering meaningful awareness programs that extend beyond the classroom and contribute to students’ holistic development.

As part of Diabetes Awareness Day, the school doctor delivered an informative presentation to students, explaining the causes of diabetes, effective prevention strategies, and steps to take if faced with this condition.

Students also learned about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. To reinforce these lessons, a variety of fruits and vegetables was offered as healthy snacks, along with explanations about nutritious food choices that support overall well-being.

The students benefited from this awareness session by learning about diabetes, its types, causes, and symptoms. During the session, we explained how diabetes affects the body and highlighted the importance of healthy eating, regular exercise, and regular blood sugar monitoring. This session helped increase students’ awareness about diabetes prevention and how to support people living with the disease.

As a Grade 5 student, I think Diabetes Day was a very useful event for us. It helped us understand what diabetes is, how we can protect ourselves, and how healthy food is important. It also taught us how we can advise others to live a healthier life. Fadha Fadhil (Student G05)

I think it was very important to learn more about diabetes. We learned how to protect ourselves and how healthy food helps us stay away from diabetes. We can also go home and tell our parents why healthy food is important. Tala Khalid (Student G04)

Self-Awareness; What Makes Me Happy?

Leila C. Saad SABIS® School El-Metn - El-Mtein, Lebanon

January 20, 2025

As part of our Social Emotional Learning activities, Grade 3 students have begun focusing on self-awareness. With the guidance and presentations from Grade 6 students, they explored their emotions and reflected on what makes them happy. This activity has significantly helped them better understand and interpret their feelings.

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom,” said Aristotle.

Grade 6 students encouraged Grade 3 students to explore their emotions by explaining how different emotions affect them. The students were later allowed to reflect and express what makes them happy.

Grade 3 students then wrote three things that make them happy and stamped their feeling on a large, white cardboard.

The students were excited and happy. They discovered new ways to share their feelings with others.
