Sports Week

The International School of Choueifat - Cairo, Egypt

October 01, 2026

The Sports Fair was a great way to kick off Sports Week, with fun, engaging activities that promoted inclusivity and reinforced that the Sports department is open to everyone.

The Sports Fair highlighted that, no matter your athletic abilities, there are always sports games you can participate in. It was a great way to encourage students to step out of their comfort zones, learn more about the Sports Department, and interact with others.

Jersey Day brought students from all grades together through their shared love of sports and school spirit. It created a sense of unity and belonging, allowing everyone to connect, make new memories, and feel part of one big school community.

Finally, the sports quiz posted on social media platforms successfully boosted students’ knowledge and engagement with SLO-related activities. It not only raised awareness of different sports, their rules, and the skills involved in each game, but also promoted the idea that the sports department is for everyone, regardless of athletic ability.

Joining the sports campaign as a junior prefect was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Sports Week is always exciting, with fun Sports Fair activities, Jersey Day, and the mini trivia that kept everyone engaged. It brings students together, boosts our energy, and makes school even more enjoyable! Silina Shaaban, 6E

An exciting sense of rivalry filled the air as both seniors and teachers laced up for the highly anticipated basketball game. This classic showdown brought together competition, camaraderie, and a whole lot of school spirit! With cheers echoing through the court, the seniors and teachers gave it their all. Every dribble, pass, and shot carried a mix of rivalry and respect.

The final score? A nail-biting 19–18 win for the seniors! Though the teachers gave it their best shot, the students walked away with bragging rights. But let’s be honest—the real win was the laughter, the memories, and the bonds strengthened on and off the court.

Phoenix Appreciation

The International School of Choueifat - Choueifat, Lebanon

February 19, 2025

Following the Regionals Qualifications, our SLO prefects hosted a distinguished event to acknowledge and congratulate our Phoenix athletes' exceptional efforts and dedication. This event underscored the significance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and the unwavering pursuit of excellence that our Phoenix team epitomizes.

Cheers and squeals filled the basketball stadium as our director, Mr. Ghassan Abdel Baki, rewarded each of our athletes with customized keychains and bottles. The excitement was palpable as the audience erupted into applause, celebrating our talented team's dedication and hard work. The customized keychains and bottles, adorned with the team’s emblem and each athlete’s name and number, served as a token of gratitude and recognition for their efforts and resilience.

The event was a celebration of our athletes and a testament to the seamless teamwork and collaboration of our prefects, who managed the event with remarkable efficiency and enthusiasm.

The atmosphere was electric with joy and camaraderie, as students, parents, and staff enjoyed the festivities. The prefects' careful planning and attention to detail ensured the event was fun and well-organized, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees. E-Cycling Club

SABIS® International School - Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE

January 29, 2025

To encourage students to pursue cycling as both a hobby and an activity, the SLO simulated a cycling race on stationary bikes.

Students, grouped by gender and age, rode stationary bikes linked to a digital program that simulates an online race.  The simulation challenges students with tasks like shifting their path, adjusting their speed when needed, and employing cycling tactics. Each student is assigned a persona within the simulation, while their speed and position are displayed on a screen. Competitors must complete a set number of laps, with the fastest and most effective cyclists securing the top positions.

This type of race could evolve into a regional competition among schools, further motivating students to practice cycling.

As a tenth grader in SABIS Yas Island, I found this activity really engaging and effective. I was able to do a sport with my friends and I really enjoyed racing them. The bike was suitable for our ages and its controls were customizable which made it better since I already knew how to cycle from before! Overall it was a really nice activity and I hope to do it again! (Amanda Maroun, Grade 10)
